Last night the Stewart Island school kids and four year old Rugrats went to Ulva Island to see the famous Sirocco. His feathers are like camouflage: green, brown, white and black. He is a beautiful nocturnal parrot. At Ulva Sirocco stays in an enclosure. The Kakapo chomps on kumara, grapes, apple and nuts. Sirocco runs around with a sparkle in his eye. Sirocco was hand raised as a chick so he is imprinted (he thinks he’s a human).

I am really impressed Maxis! You are so lucky to have such wonderful native resources on your doorstep. Sirocco must be amazing to meet 'ín person'. I must get Ms Johnson to show me how to do the photo slideshow on a blog - it looks cool!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous experience. Gosh you guys are super lucky to live in such an amazing place - we're not sure about the weather though! :-) We'd love to see more work from your school, keep us updated on more of your fun adventures.

Wow you guys were super lucky to go and see Sirocco. Thank you Sharon and evryone else who made it happen. Was a great suprise.
ReplyDeleteHi Halfmoon Bay School! Thanks for coming to see me! I love seeing people as you could probably gather, and I really like coming over to Rakiura and Ulva for visits! It makes me feel rather at home as thats where most of my relatives came from back in the day! All except one, and do you know what his name is and why he is so special as a kakapo? I am back at home on Whenua Hou now relaxing after my hectic social calendar. Hope you are all working hard at school and looking forward to the Christmas holidays!
ReplyDeleteLove Sirocco :)
Hi Everyone - its Andre Jones here,
ReplyDeleteHello from Melbourne - how are you all - I'm sorry I couldn't blog you earlier. You look as though you had a great time snokelling - I had such a great time with you all last year - thank you once again. I have moved to a new school - we are getting new classrooms and move in in October. My school is at 840 Yan Yen Road, Doreen Melbourne - it's called Plenty Valley Christian School and it has about 1000 children that go from grade one to 13. I have made some good friends at the school. You could look that up on google.
I'm playing rugby again - last week I played against some very big islanders - there is no such thing as weight for age here - you just play in the under 10's - so it doesn't matter what size you are - it's all good fun though.
How are you all going - Nanny sends me some news now and again - I see that the playground has been upgraded - I hope you are all enjoying it.
Are you going to do the haka in Invercargill this year????
I would love to here from you at some stage when you are not so busy.
I'm missing the fresh new zealand air and the cold weather. We do lots of homework at my new school.
i have to catch the bus at 8:00, 10:00 your time, not so good
P.S Kath how many kids at school???????????
Hope all is well
